A temperature-controlled electric field sample environment for small-angle neutron scattering experiments

چکیده
A new sample environment is introduced for the study of soft matter samples in electric fields using small-angle neutron scattering instruments. The temperature controlled and features external electrodes, allowing standard quartz cuvettes to be used conducting or containing ions investigated without risk electrochemical reactions occurring at electrodes. For 12.5 mm cuvettes, maximum applied field 8 kV/cm, may static alternating (up 10 kHz kV/cm up 60 4 kV/cm). within are calculated simulated under a number different conditions, capabilities setup demonstrated variety liquid crystalline samples. Measurements were performed as function time spent field. Finally, advantages, drawbacks, potential optimization discussed with reference applications complex matter, biology, electrorheology.
